Dear Bereaved Parent,

Ever feel like others just don’t understand?

No matter how hard I tried, I could never convey the depth of what I was feeling to someone who had not experienced a similar loss.

For a time, I thought I needed them to “get it.” I needed them to feel how I felt. And when they didn’t, it added another level of frustration and despair.

At some point, I stopped trying to make anyone understand and sought out others who did. Letting go improved my relationships and I came to appreciate that they did not know this sorrow.

Whether it has been one day or ten years, I get it.  You’re not alone.

With Love,

Mary Anne
